LLTCF Scholarships
The nursing scholarship application process is currently closed and will open in September 2017. At that time LNHA member nursing facilities will receive an email with an updated application form and instructions.

LLTCF Gero Nurse Prep Course Scholarship
The Gero Nurse Prep Course scholarship is awarded by the Louisiana Long Term Care Foundation. To apply, please fill out the form attached and have your administrator fill out the other form. Your application form along with your administratorís recommendation form should be completed electronically and submitted in one email to Karen Miller, LLTCF Foundation Director, at kmiller@lnha.org with the subject line of "2017 Gero Nurse Prep Course Scholarship.Ē

Please read the detailed information about the Gero Nurse Prep Course below. Applicants must work for a LNHA member facility and must meet the requirements to take the exam (see number 3 below). If you are interested in applying for this scholarship or nominating a staff member, email Karen Miller at kmiller@lnha.org. There is no deadline to apply. Gero Nurse Prep Course Scholarships are awarded as individuals apply for them and are deemed a good fit for this opportunity.

This online course is offered through the Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing. Please take a moment to review their website. 1. What fees are involved?

  • LNHA pays up front ($600)

    • The student or the studentís employer (nursing facility) pays LNHA $300 initially and gets reimbursed once the student successfully completes the course

  • $395 for the exam fee (The exam fee is paid by the student or the studentís employer.)

2. Does the applicant need a Bachelorís degree? No, just an RN license.

3. Nurse eligibility criteria to take Gerontological Certification exam:

  • Current active RN licensure in a U.S. state or territory - or the legally recognized equivalent in another country
  • Two years full-time practice as a RN

  • A minimum of 2,000 hours of gerontological nursing practice in the last 3 years

  • Has completed 30 hours of continuing education in gerontological nursing within the last 3 years (fully satisfied by this Gero Prep certification training program)

4. How long does the course take?
The course is online and is self-paced. There are 10 learning modules. Gero Nurse Prep encourages RNs to devote 30 minutes every day to coursework. If the student devotes the recommended amount of time, the course will be completed in 3-4 months.

LLTCF Nursing Scholarship
One of the Foundationís main functions is to encourage nursing students of high academic and care-giving caliber to pursue a career in long term care by granting academic scholarships to those who already show an interest in caring for the elderly. The scholarship application process is currently closed and will open in September 2017.

The following criteria must be met to qualify for a scholarship:

  1. Currently employed at a LNHA member facility

  2. Submit an electronic or scanned copy of your letter of acceptance from an accredited LPN, RN, BSN or MSN program. Those taking prerequisite classes are not eligible.

  3. Submit two completed scholarship recommendation forms. At least one form should be completed from someone representing your nursing facility (administrator or DON). Click here to download the recommendation form.

  4. Complete the LLTCF nurse scholarship application (page 2 of the application).

  5. A personal essay describing your future plans and interest in long term care nursing. (page 2 of application)
